STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) – A 26-year-old Sterling Heights man faces armed robbery charges after he was allegedly caught on surveillance video threatening employees with a knife at a Kentucky Fried Chicken.
Police Lt. Luke Riley said it happened at around 9:20 p.m. Monday, shortly after the fast-food restaurant — on Van Dyke Ave. in Sterling Heights — closed for the night.
Riley said the suspect, Andrew Hayden, tricked a female employee into opening the door by saying his friend had been hit by a car.
In the video, the employee can be heard letting out a blood curdling scream when, once inside, the suspect points a knife at her as he demands she give him all the money in the register.
“OK, I’m getting it,” the girl tells the suspect, who, as she hands him the cash, complains, “It’s only f— ones.”
